Artistic Statement

I make work about the making of work. I am interested in process as product — the playful development of a unique artistic practice and the presentation of the practicing of that practice as a staged work of postdramatic theatre or performance. Through these staged interrogations of the act of practicing, I am often calling attention to cultural preconceptions of performance while attempting to conjure the past in contemporary theatrical landscapes.

Through my extensive collaborations with nonprofit arts organisations, I have cultivated a unique set of skills that enables me to create work in a variety of artistic mediums. I frequently direct, produce, perform, devise and facilitate new works with award-winning theatre and performance companies.

A Brief History

I previously served for eight years as the Founding Artistic Director of Theater Reconstruction Ensemble, a former Brooklyn-based nonprofit experimental theatre company, during which time I staged several classic plays, conceived and directed a number of original works of devised theatre, and collaborated with award-winning playwright Jaclyn Backhaus on several large-scale scripted projects.

I’ve collaborated in multiple artistic capacities with renowned New York-based theatre companies Target Margin Theater, The Talking Band and Little Lord; and OBIE Award-winning artists Joshua William Gelb, David Greenspan, David Herskovits and Tina Shepard, among others. I’ve also established recurring partnerships with a number of notable venues in New York City, including HERE Arts Center, The Brick and The Chocolate Factory Theater, among others.

Recent Endeavours

I’m the founder and Artistic Director of Not Quite Theatre co., a new London-based laboratory for experimental theatre & performance.

I’m a Visiting Lecturer in Advanced Acting, Theatre Making and Ensemble Production on the BA Theatre course at Brunel University London. And I’m a Visiting Lecturer and Dissertation Supervisor on the MA Applied Theatre and MA Voice Studies courses at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

I served as the Head Tutor for Contextual Practice and the Head of 3rd Year BA (Hons) Acting at Italia Conti. I also served as the Associate Producer for Tempting Failure, London’s biennial of international performance art and noise. And I’ve worked on Community and Engagement programming for Stockroom, a writer’s room dedicated to script creation and a radical new approach to playwriting
